Top 7 Stocking Stuffers for Christmas 2014!

It’s the Monday before Christmas, and most of you have your gifts bought for Christmas (well, except for the husbands out there…).  I’m on top of my game this year, and already picked up presents for Kelly, got the wrapping paper, bows, and everything I need.

Except every year I forget about stocking stuffers for her!

For those of you like me, who are looking for those stocking stuffers for your favorite gamer, this post is for you.  Here are my favorites for this year:

1.  Hanabi.  Yes, I know Hanabi was on last year’s list, but it’s still super popular and a great game.  That’s probably why it was the 2013 Game of the Year!  It’s quick, it’s cooperative, and it’s fun!

2.  Letters to Santa – Letters to Santa is a holiday themed version of Love Letter (which is one of the best selling games of the year).  If you don’t already have Love Letter (or Munchkin Loot Letter) then this is another great stuffer!  The game play is easy to teach anyone and a round can take less than 5 minutes to play.  First person to win 4 rounds wins!

3.  Cheaty Mages – Which of the wizards betting on the monster fight can cheat the best to make his monster win?  I’ve been pleasantly suprised at the response to Cheaty Mages since it came out.  People laugh and bicker as they try to best the other players at the table.  Great fun for all!

4.  Coup – Coup is actually a couple of years old, but with the reprinting earlier this year and really taken off as a great party game.  Again, it’s very easy to teach, quick to play, and yet hard to master.  It’s all about bluffing, so if you’re playing with someone who can’t hold a straight face…  For those that are already fans of Coup, don’t forget than the first expansion, Coup: Reformation just came out a couple months ago.

5.  Timeline: Americana – Timeline is a hugely popular card game that is accidentally educational.  The basic concept is that you have to correctly play one of your cards into the timeline on the table in order of year.  (did the Wright Brothers fly at Kitty Hawk before or after the American Revolution?)  The really cool thing about Timeline is there is different versions of it, that can be played independently or mixed together.  Timeline Americana is the newest version, but I also like Timeline:  Music & Cinema, and Timeline: Inventions.

6.  Roll For It! – Roll For It! is against ridiculously easy to teach, and a lot of fun.  I’m noticing a theme here…  Players are trying to roll their dice to match the face up cards on the table – if you get the three 2s first, you take the card and get the points.  There is actually a Roll For It! Red set, and a Purple set, and if you combine them, you can play up to 8 players.

7.  Crabs Adjust Humidity – This adults only game is a self described “crappy third-party expansion” to Cards Against Humanity (which we also carry).  There are actually 4 different volume of Crabs, each designed to be shuffled into your CAH game.  I have to tell you that this cards might be even more wrong and raunchy than the regular game.  If you know a gameer who has Cards Against Humanity and is up for that kind of a challenge, then Crabs Adjust Humidity might just be the perfect gift!

And if nothing else, we always have booster packs for Magic the Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokemon, and Vanguard that slide right down inside a stocking for a nice surprise.

And dice sets!  So many sets of dice for those of you shopping for role-playing gamers!
